The severe vulnerability reported over the weekend, which is now been taken up by Homeland Security to warn against using any version of Internet Explorer has seen an initial security patch release.
Microsoft has updated a Security Advisory (2755801) to announce a limited fix for the flaw. "Limited," in that the company is only patching Internet Explorer versions 10 and 11 right now, and only for the company's latest round of operating systems. Earlier versions of Windows will have to wait.
In the Security Advisory the company states:
Microsoft is announcing the availability of an update for Adobe Flash Player in Internet Explorer on all supported editions of Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, Windows RT, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2, and Windows RT 8.1. The update addresses the vulnerabilities in Adobe Flash Player by updating the affected Adobe Flash libraries contained within Internet Explorer 10 and Internet Explorer 11.
The security update should be immediately available through all Microsoft patching mechanisms that utilize Windows Update to retrieve updates.
Obviously, Microsoft is working to patch other versions of Internet Explorer, however it's been communicated that IE10 and IE11 are the versions under active attack.
The Security Advisory is an important read as it includes all known workarounds and mitigations.
