A: Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8 use version 8 of the Remote Desktop Protocol. However, older RDP clients that don't support RDP 8.0 can still connect to Windows Server 2012 or Windows 8, but they won't take advantage of new RDP 8.0 features, such as user experience and WAN optimization improvements.

For the best experience, use RDP 8.0. It's a part of Windows 8 and will also be available as an update for Windows 7 at some point in the future, after general availability of Windows Server 2012.
