Q: What are the various types of connections available in the Windows 8 Network area?

A: Windows 8 has many types of network connections available: wireless, wired, VPN and DirectAccess, with each having its own icon in the Networks bar (see screen shot below). It's good to remember what the icons are, as sometimes the name doesn't make it obvious (unlike in my example).
