A beta of Proxy Server 2.0 is now available from the Proxy Server beta Web site at Microsoft. Microsoft is billingthis new version as a firewall and "Web cache server" that provides Internet security. MS Proxy Server 2.0 acts as a gateway between your LANand the Internet, and works with Windows NT to provide remote users withaccess to the Internet network. The "cache" functionality reduces networktraffic, improving performance.

Proxy Server 2.0 is a major upgrade from the original version. It featuresWeb-based management (not implemented in Beta 1), HTTP 1.1 and SOCKS support, and other features users have been asking for.

The Proxy Server 2.0 download weighs in at a reasonable 3.76 Mb. It requires Windows NT Server 4.0 with IIS 3.0 and Service Pack 3
