PC and Mac Client Support for Windows Server 2012 R2 with Windows Server Essentials

If you will be upgrading your servers to Windows 2012 R2 when it releases on October 17th, 2013, you may also need to grab a new connector for your supported Windows and Mac clients.  The new connector allows you to connect the supported client operating systems to any Windows 2012 R2 that has the Windows Server Essentials Experience server role enabled.

The new connector provides the following client-side functionality:

  • Client backup (PC only)

  • Tray icon (PC only)

  • Launchpad (PC and Mac)

  • Dashboard for managing remote servers (PC only)

  • Auto-dial VPN capability (PC only)

  • Health Monitoring (PC and Mac)

The connector supports Windows Server 2012 R2 only, but provides connect-ability for the following operating systems:

  • Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

  • Windows 8

  • Windows 8.1

  • Mac OS X 10.6 -10.8
