We told you the month it would be released, but in a new blog post Microsoft has announced the actual day, date, and time when Windows 8.1 will start rolling out.

Microsoft Announces Exact Date and Time for October Release of Windows 8.1

The rumors have been flying about the release date of the updated Windows 8 OS. In October Set for Windows 8.1 Public Release, we told you the month it would be released, but in a new blog post Microsoft announced the actual day, date, and time.

12:00am on October 18th in New Zealand (that’s 4:00am October 17th in Redmond)

On that date, at that exact time, Windows 8.1 will begin rolling out worldwide as a free update for current Windows 8 customers. The update will be available through the Windows Store delivery mechanism. Also, on that date, Windows 8.1 will be available for sale in retail stores and provided on new devices.
