If you are an owner of a Lenovo Miix2 8 tablet you can add an update from Microsoft as one of the things you can be thankful for during this holiday season. You can now unplug the tablet and pass around family pictures at the holiday gathering without fear of the screen blanking out. Of course, your kids might thank you if that happened. Parents have a tendency to highlight the most embarrassing photos, thinking they are 'cute'. I can't tell you how many times I've grimaced in embarrassment when a family member was passing around an early-life "bathtub picture".
When Windows 8.1 rolled out, Miix2 tablet owners reported that the touted 7 hour battery life had been whittled down to about half. Microsoft has finally released an update that addresses an issue where the tablet could not enter a low power state and would just run at high performance constantly.
The update is available here: Update for Windows 8.1 (KB2913236)
And, the associated KB article is here: You may experience poor battery life on a Lenovo Miix2 8 tablet running Windows 8.1
Again, this is only for the Lenovo Miix2 8 Tablet. If you don't own this device, you can ignore the update. It's interesting, though, that this comes as a full update instead of just a hotfix, since it is targeted toward a single manufacturer's hardware.
