Check Windows 8.1 SkyDrive Synchronization Status

Q: How can I check the status of SkyDrive synchronization in Windows 8.1?

A: With the Windows 8 SkyDrive desktop application, it was possible to hover the mouse over the notification tray icon to display the current synchronization status. In Windows 8.1, SkyDrive is integrated with the OS, and there's no notification tray icon and thus no easy way to see the synchronization status.

If you have selected content to be available offline, and it has no overlay icon, this means the content is synchronized. If the icon has a gray synchronization overlay, it means it's not yet completed synchronizing.

This is different from Windows 8, where synchronized files have an icon overlay. Now, no icon means its synchronized.

To get the details of synchronization, launch the SkyDrive app from the Windows 8.1 Start Screen. In the top right corner, a summary of synchronization is shown, which if clicked, then shows details of files waiting to be uploaded and downloaded. If files are currently being synchronized, the amount of data transferred is shown.
