Bing Smart Search in Windows 8.1

You may have data strewn across several different services and sometimes locating a specific piece can be daunting. Windows 8.1 brings a new Bing Smart Search that seeks to eliminate the pains of looking everywhere. With a single search Bing Smart Search will attempt to locate your chosen topic on your device, in the Cloud, and on the web simultaneously.

This is one thing I believe is still to be realized and whoever finally solves the problem will be master of all. There's just so many services and data storage locations, so our content exists in so many places. In a recent interview with David Stein on the Skatterbrainz blog, I highlighted this as something that needs to be addressed.

Could Microsoft do it with Bing Smart Search? I don't know, but at least it's a step. Will Bing Smart Search ever work with other, non-Microsoft services? Not right away, but Microsoft is steadily making it's services and apps available to other platforms, so who knows what the future holds.
