Q. How do I install XP Mode for Windows 7?

A. Installing the XP Mode virtual machine (VM) for Windows 7 Enterprise, Professional, and Ultimate is a basic wizard. After installing the Windows Virtual PC feature for Windows 7, launch the XP Mode setup and accept the license agreement.

You'll be prompted for the installation location of the XP VM and local credentials to create on the new installation, as shown here. You can cache the credentials for automatic logon.

During the installation, the installer will show a basic tutorial, as shown here.

Once installed, you can access the XP VM from the Windows Virtual PC Start menu.

Install the applications you want to access in the VM. Make sure when you install applications that you select to install the applications for all users. This will ensure the applications' Start menu shortcuts are published to the Start menu, as shown here.
