Q. Do I have to activate the Windows XP virtual machine that is provided with Windows 7?

A. No, the Windows XP SP3 environment provided will auto-activate based on the Windows 7 SKU it is running on (so good news there), provided it is running on Professional, Enterprise or Ultimate editions of Windows 7.
