Windows 10 Creators Update: Step by Step to Upgrade Your System With the Media Creation Tool
Microsoft has made the Windows 10 Creators Update, the third major feature update for Windows 10, available for early access ahead of its official roll out via Windows Update which is scheduled for 11 April 2017.
If you are an early adopter like many of our readers, then you can go ahead and install the new update on your Windows 10 systems and enjoy the new features and enhancements immediately.
As of today you can use the Media Creation Tool (MCT) from Microsoft to download the Creators Update, Build 15063, and either perform an in-place upgrade to create separate installation media on a USB flash drive or a DVD for installing the update on other machines. This same installation media can also be used to perform a clean install of Windows 10 on a properly licensed device.
For this walk through we are focusing on an in-place upgrade from the Windows 10 Anniversary Update to the Windows 10 Creators Update. You will also see the new expanded privacy settings questions that will now be available during an upgrade or a clean install.
I will provide clarity on each screenshot as necessary to highlight key elements of the upgrade process.
If you run into any issues or have questions about this process post them in the comments below and we will get back to you with whatever assistance we can provide.
Note: You will see these screenshots in a virtual machine (VM) so that frame around the OS is part of its VM. The steps and expected screens are still the same whether this is happening on a physical device or a VM.
