July Xbox One Console Update Delivers Custom Gamerpics and Other New Features to All Users

This week Microsoft has made the July Xbox One update available to everyone who owns the companies gaming and entertainment console.

This update, which has been in testing over the last few weeks by Xbox Insiders, is now ready for everyone to get the latest feature updates for the console.

It should download and install automatically but if you want to check for it just go into Settings on the console, and then System>Updates to check for it and begin the installation process.

Over the last few weeks the one item that I have received the most questions about is the Custom Gamerpic capability and I am glad to say that it is the very feature that is topping Microsoft's list for this update.

I have previously written about how to create a Custom Gamerpic both on the console and using the Xbox App (Beta) but now the main Xbox App has been updated and supports the same process that was tested on the beta version. Just check for an update to the app through the Windows Store and make sure you have at least version 30.31.1001.000000 on your system. Our how-to's on this subject still apply.

Other new features include:

-- Mixer Co-streaming is now on console, for everyone: With just a few clicks, you and up to three of your friends can stream together in a single broadcast. Plus, never miss your friends’ streams inside your Club and Arena Tournaments.

-- Sign-in to your Xbox One with just one press of the Xbox button on your controller. Now you can make your controller truly your own.

-- New user-generated tournaments for Killer Instinct on Xbox One means it’s never been easier to go to battle with your friends.

Also of note are updates for the Android and iOS Xbox apps that add Looking For Group Sharing, Game Pass Browsing, and updated Language/Location Setting. For those of you on Android a bonus feature is the support for Chat Bubbles.

One last note for everyone about Xbox One and the Xbox Insider Program. I have been asked by multiple gamers to invite them into the preview program recently on Xbox Live.

Microsoft no longer uses the invitation process to add new users to this preview program. In fact they have opened it up so that anyone can join just by downloading the Xbox Insider App on their consoles and enrolling from there. This actually changed last fall and we covered it here so go ahead and grab the app and get yourself setup to test these early builds.

Learn more about getting the Xbox Insider Hub app and how the new program works over at Xbox Support.

Enjoy!
