How To: Control and Monitor Bandwidth Usage for Windows Update in the Fall Creators Update

Earlier this week I shared a how to and images for an unannounced feature that showed up in the latest Windows 10 Redstone 3 build, aka the Fall Creators Update, that allows you to reset your PIN and password directly from the Lock Screen.

It seems there was more than one new feature/enhancement in Build 16237 for PC that was not specifically mentioned in the builds release notes from Microsoft.

Microsoft has been working on advanced features for Windows Update since they released Windows 10 in an effort to help users control the amount of data that is pulled down through their Internet connection. They have implemented a new Unified Update Platform (UUP) to provide differential downloads for updates and a process that downloads updates from other PCs on your local network to avoid using your Internet connection to download updates destined for each device.

It now appears Microsoft is preparing a new enhancement to Windows Update as part of the upcoming Fall Creators Update for its advanced management options to allow the user to control how much of their bandwidth is set aside for update downloads when they are available and to limit the amount of data that is marked for those updates.

There is also a new activity monitor for keeping an eye on data usage related to Windows Update.
