Hands On: Windows 10 Redstone 3 Build 16237 for the Fall Creators Update

Last week was a tumultuous one for Windows Insiders and enthusiasts.

It started off early fireworks with the news that two key features which were announced at Build 2017, Windows Timeline and Cloud-Powered Clipboard, would not be making it into the Fall Creators Update.

That prompted us to take a closer look at what major features and other enhancements were making their way into the fourth feature update for Windows 10 which is expected in the September timeframe.

While Microsoft could have communicated their timing much better when these two features were demoed at Build 2017, the bottom line is that the work on the Fall Creators Update continues and on the last day of the holiday shortened week we received a new PC build for Redstone 3 testing.

That build is the 11th overall testing release made on the PC side and brings both PC and Mobile build counts in sync with each other.

Note: No Mobile build was released for Feature 2 as Dona Sarkar noted on Twitter that build was grounded as in not being flighted like their PC counterpart. No further clarity was provided about the status of future mobile builds for Feature 2 or Redstone 3.

The amount of work accomplished between Build 16232 and 16237, released just nine days apart, was impressive. The Windows Insider team changed up their release notes slightly and included some of their fixes alongside of updates in various categories. This was instead of their normal collection of fixes for the entire build. By the time you add together all of the indicated fixes in Build 16237 there were a total of 38 documented fixes and 16 new features or enhancements. Of course, there were likely many more that did not warrant a written mention in the release notes.

The Windows Insider team also announced that the 2nd and final Bug Bash for the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update will be held beginning on 14 July at 12 AM (Pacific) and end on 23 July at 11:59 PM (Pacific) - that is a full seven days of bug bashing. I think we can also expect a new build prior to this beginning as well.

Speaking of new builds - one more piece of news for those of you in the Windows Insider Slow Ring. Build 16232, which was released in the Fast Ring prior to this builds release, has now been made available for those of you taking the slow lane for Redstone 3 testing. That means an ISO could show up on the Windows Insider website at anytime for clean installs. I am also hoping that they make an ISO available of this weeks build for the Bug Bash as that can help users upgrade for testing those scenarios which has been challenging over the last handful of builds.
