Late Monday afternoon, exactly 30 days since the last build of Windows 10 was released to Insiders, an updated build was posted to testers on the program's Fast Ring.  It just so happens that it was also just 30 days until the General Availability of Windows 10 next month.

Very symmetrical.

You can read about some of the updates in this build on the summary I posted yesterday. You will see the big news on this build is the first desktop release with full Microsoft Edge browsing. As you know Microsoft Edge is the new web browsing platform that is part of Windows 10 - it was formerly known as Project Spartan.

The other interesting note about this build - no known issues.  Past builds have been full of these things so it is good to see a build this close to RTM that has moved past beyond having disruptive problems.

Surface Pro 3 users will see some battery life improvement and those of you with Surface 3 wil be able to finally install Windows 10 with this builds updated Cherry Trail drivers.

I have successfully updated one desktop and my HP Stream 7 to the 10158 build without any problems. My test HP Spectre on the other hand had to be reverted to 0074 so it could see the new build in the Fast Ring as 10130 could not detect it.  A quick search of Twitter showed that I was not alone in this very issue so hopefully Microsoft will address this when the sun rises on that side of the country.

Keep an eye on the site as there will be a hands on coming later today.

I served for 29 plus years in the U.S. Navy and retired as a Master Chief Petty Officer in November 2011. My work background in the Navy was telecommunications related so my hobby of computers fit well with what I did for the Navy. I consider myself a tech geek and enjoy most things in that arena.

My first website – AnotherWin95.com – came online in 1995. Back then I used GeoCities Web Hosting for it and WindowsObserver.com is the result of the work I have done on that site since 1995.

In January 2010 my community contributions were recognized by Microsoft when I received my first Most Valuable Professional (MVP) Award for the Windows Operating System. Since then I have been renewed as a Microsoft MVP each subsequent year since that initial award. I am also a member of the inaugural group of Windows Insider MVPs which began in 2016.

I previously hosted the Observed Tech PODCAST for 10 years and 317 episodes and now host a new podcast called Faith, Tech, and Space.

I began contributing to Penton Technology websites in January 2015 and in April 2017 I was hired as the Senior Content Producer for Penton Technology which is now Informa Tech. In that role, I contribute to ITPro Today and cover operating systems, enterprise technology, and productivity.
