The first ever keynote for Microsoft’s new conglomerate tech conference just wrapped up after three hours and there were plenty of announcements about new services and product previews.
The first ever keynote for Microsoft’s new conglomerate tech conference just wrapped up after three hours and there were plenty of announcements about new services and product previews.
The conference is being held in Chicago, Illinois and has over 23,000 people in attendance who will now move into more in depth side sessions.
We have Rod Trent and Lisa Schmeiser on site who will bring continued in depth coverage of these announcements. While they and 23,000 of their closest friends exit the keynote here is a rundown of the announcements from this morning.
Ignite Keynote Announcements
Windows Update for Business – allows you to control which machines get Windows Updates and when they receive them to protect critical business machines.
Office 2016 Public Preview – Expanded so that anyone who wants to try out the next version of Office can jump right in. Available for Office 365 subscribers and those who want to run the full standalone install. My earlier post about this is here and it is available for immediate download.
Microsoft Brings the Next Generation of Hybrid Cloud - Azure to Your Datacenter – Get the capabilities of Azure on your own premise with Microsoft Azure Stack. Then Microsoft Operations Management Suite is available to help you manage your data in a hybrid cloud environment.
Windows Server 2016 – A second technical preview is now available for download and testing.
Microsoft Announces Nano Server for Modern Apps and Cloud – A system that was made for running applications and containers in the cloud.
System Center 2016 – Has new provisioning, monitoring and automation abilities for your data center. A new preview will be available sometime this week.
Skype for Business gains momentum – New features such as the ability to broadcast business meetings to 10,000 people; pre-loaded meeting attachments and in-call co-authoring.
Skype for Business Server – Use your server to control unified communications with Skype for Business clients being available for Android, iOS, MAC, Windows and the web.
Microsoft Advanced Threat Analytics – Brings on-premise Azure AD level security monitoring and threat detection. This software/service is the result of Microsoft’s acquisition last November of Aorato. The preview is available now from here.
