A. Because WSS is an OEM manufacturer-specific product that's supplied as part of a WSS device, there's no direct in-place upgrade from the 2008 version of WSS to the 2008 R2 version. If you do a fresh installation of 2008 R2, your volumes will still be available with their data, but any applications and settings will be lost.
