A. The SQL Server VSS writer is included in the ToolsSetup folder as SqlWriter.msi, so if the SQL Server VSS Writer isn't functioning or missing, do the following:

  1. In Programs and Features (Add/Remove Programs), uninstall the SQL Server VSS Writer component.

  2. Run the SqlWriter.msi file.

  3. Reboot the server.

The SQL Server VSS writer should now be present.
