Database performance, virtualisation and high availability will be under the spotlight at our SQL Server Unleashed Europe web conference on September 22 starting at 11:00 a.m. British Summer Time/12:00 noon Central European Summer Time.
The free-to-attend live interactive virtual event from SQL Server Magazine will be co-hosted by industry gurus Niels Berglund, Javier Loria and Greg Low. Berglund, a UK-based Swede, is a technical trainer, prolific writer for both SQL Server and Windows IT Pro magazine and was co-author of the first book on SQL Server 2005 development. Similarly, Javier is a Costa Rica-based MVP who co-authored Microsoft's SQL Server 2005 courseware and Low is also a SQL Server MVP as well as being one of only three Microsoft MSDN regional directors for Australia.
"Business reliance upon SQL Server databases continues to grow," says Berglund. "Yet fewer and fewer businesses are spending the time, energy and resources needed to sufficiently train DBAs, developers and other IT professionals about SQL Server options and capabilities. Not only does this drastically decrease ROI on SQL Server licensing costs, but it frequently comes at the expense of making operations more difficult for IT personnel, DBAs and developers left to solve complex problems and issues on their own."
SQL Server Unleashed Europe aims to address these issues. Viewers of Greg Low's opening session will find out why he thinks there's never been a better time to virtualise SQL Server deployments. They will learn how to best virtualise SQL Server in order to optimise provisioning, uptime and consolidation without allowing the technology to impair workload throughput, a common concern among database specialists.
At Javier Loria's seminar, conference-goers will learn about the benefits and limitations of SQL Server's native high availability options and learn how to evaluate each option based upon business needs, network latency and other real-world considerations. Loria will also look at the difference between high availability and disaster recovery solutions – often a cause of some confusion – and how to ensure that both are handled in the best way possible.
The day will be topped off with Niels Berglund's insights into what causes SQL Server performance problems and the best ways to profile, load-test and tune SQL Server workloads rather than just throwing more and more expensive hardware at each problem as it is encountered.
SQL Server Unleashed Europe will run from 11:00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. British Summer Time/12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. Central European Summer Time on September 22. For the full agenda and no-cost registration see the SQL Server Unleashed website.
