Tiny Software announced the release of Trojan Trap, a security tool designed to prevent malicious applications and code from entering a network. The program consists of a series of executables, DLLs, and kernel-level drivers--each protects a different aspect of an OS. Trojan Trap creates a closed sandbox environment in which code may execute, where the software monitors the code to protect against unwanted access to system drivers, services, the registry, system files, and network ports.
Trojan Trap scans a workstation for currently installed and known applications to immediately protect commonly used tools (e.g., Internet Explorer--IE, Netscape Communicator, Outlook, and Lotus Notes) against malicious activity. The tool also prevents one application from spawning another application or process. A spokesperson for the company said, "[Trojan Trap] is the first commercially available behavior checker that not only protects against intended hostile attacks, but also against unintentionally buggy applications."
The software runs on Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Me, Windows NT, and Windows 98. The price ranges from $29 to $399, depending on licensing requirements. Visit the company's Web site for more information about Trojan Trap.
