Software Testing Product News: SmartBear Software Releases ALMComplete 2011 with QAComplete 2011

SmartBear Software, a provider of software testing and application lifecycle management (ALM) tools for software developers, announced the release of ALMComplete 2011, SmartBear's ALM tool, and QAComplete, its test management tool . The focus of this major release, said Steve Miller, SmartBear's vice president of ALM Solutions, is to "provide companies an alternative to HP's Quality Center that's comparable in functionality at one-fifth the cost."

The release features key improvements in the areas of test management and release management. "We rewrote our test management module from scratch," Miller said. "You can track agile sprints, and tie in and reuse other artifacts. You can resurface test cases, convert to regression sets, and create automated tests from these. And you can create configurations for different browsers, so you can have one test set with multiple configurations."

Miller said that all improvements in ALMComplete 2011 and QAComplete 2011 were built directly in response to feedback from SmartBear Software's client advisory board, a panel comprising SmartBear customers. Miller said that 35 percent of advisory board members had previously used HP Quality Center but switched to ALMComplete mainly because of the product's lower cost and more responsive support.

SmartBear provides integration with Visual Studio Team Foundation Server (TFS) and other defect-tracking and ALM tools, so that you can sync defects or other date entered in QAComplete with TFS and other tools. Additionally, SmartBear offers an HP Quality Center conversion tool for Quality Center customers who are moving to ALMComplete.

ALMComplete 2011 (which includes QAComplete 2011) is available in both software-as-a-service (SaaS) and on-premises versions. Free trials are available for ALMComplete and QAComplete. You can find more information about features in ALMComplete 2011 here.
