Altova Adds Support for Excel 2007 to MapForce
Altova announced the availability of Altova MapForceVersion 2008 Release 2 (v2008r2). This latest update to the MapForce graphicaldata mapping tool provides users with new functionality, including support formapping Microsoft Excel 2007, which uses the Office Open XML (OOXML) fileformat, integration with and project generation for Visual Studio 2008, supportfor data streams in MapForce generated code, and more. Support for Mapping Excel 2007 (OOXML) Data. Newsupport for the OOXML data format in Microsoft Excel 2007 (XLSX) allows usersto map Excel 2007 spreadsheet data to and from XML, databases, text, EDI, andWeb services, then convert data instantly or autogenerate royalty free Java,C#, or C++ code for recurrent transformations. As knowledge workers continue toupgrade to the newest version of the Microsoft Office suite, support for Excel2007 in MapForce will be an indispensible feature for sophisticated dataintegration project applications. Support for Visual Studio 2008. In this latestversion of MapForce, support for seamless integration with and code generationfor Visual Studio has been extended to include Visual Studio 2008. MapForcev2008r2 can now create a Visual Studio 2008 project file when autogenerating C#or C++ data transformation code. (Code compatible with previous versions ofVisual Studio can also be generated.) Support for integration with VisualStudio 2008 gives Microsoft developers access to all the data mapping,conversion, and integration capabilities of MapForce directly inside the latestversion of the development environment.
Support for Data Streams in Generated Code.MapForce v2008r2 now supports data streams as input or output in generated Javaand C# code. With this new support, users can apply mapping code to Web serversand other data exchange scenarios where transmissions are conducted andprocessed in packets rather than files.
Expanded Support for Relational DatabaseFunctionality. New direct support for SQL SELECT allows users to easilygenerate SELECT statements to create virtual tables and refine the dataexposed in their database mapping components. Additionally, users of MapForce v2008r2can now insert primary or foreign keys directly within a mapping when they aremissing from the underlying database, making these table relationshipsavailable for data transformation.
Extended Support for SOAP1.2. In addition to SOAP 1.1, MapForce v2008r2now provides full support for SOAP 1.2messages for mapping to and/or from Web services, as well as for creating newWeb services.
New Global Resources Capabilities. GlobalResources are a set of new features for enhancing productivity in MapForce, aswell as in Altova XMLSpy, StyleVision, and DatabaseSpy. Global resourcessupport allows users to define, share, and access file, folder, and databaseresources across multiple projects and even across multiple Altova softwaretools, making it especially beneficial for users of the MissionKit productbundle.
