Q. Can I have replica VHDs stored in different folders using Hyper-V Replica?

A. By default Hyper-V Replica stores all assets of a VM to a single folder on the target replica server for the virtual hard disks and another folder for the VM configuration based on the GUID of the VM. It is possible to change this folder structure using the following sequence of actions:

  1. Enable replication of a VM however postpone initial replication to a later time

  2. Once the VM is created on the target server use storage migration to move the VMs assets to locations of your choosing

  3. Once the migrations are complete the initial replication can be performed
