Citrix's Tona Sanchez and Sai Allavarpu talked to me about XenDesktop Tuesday.

XenDesktop is a desktop virtualization and application virtualization platform. It's aimed at letting users access their desktops and applications anywhere, on any network. It also addresses the identity challenges that come with virtualization.

XenDesktop uses a technology set Citrix calls HDX to deliver high-quality user experiences and has integrated sevurity and performance features. It's the leader in market share. Citrix's XenApp has been rolled into XenDesktop to provide application virtualization.

During their presentation, the Citrix guys showed me their product in action. By clicking on an icon on a PC, they had access to a desktop environment that was running on a remote server. By touching an icon on an iPad, that same desktop session was closed on the PC and appeared on the iPad's screen.

There are multiple licensing models available for Citrix, but licesnses start at $75 per user MSRP for basic VDI. Visit the Citrix site for more information about XenDesktop.
