When you use Gpedit.msc to edit local policy settings on Windows XP, the changes DO NOT become effective.

To workaround this behavior, use either of the following methods:

Delete the Group Policy Objects temporary registry key:

1. Copy / Paste the following to a GPOTD.reg file:

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionGroup Policy Objects]

2. Merge the GPOTD.reg file with your registry, or run regedit /s GPOTD.reg.

Install and use the Microsoft Group Policy Management Console (GPMC):

Introducing the Group Policy Management Console.
