In tip 0484, I described how to disable the Windows key.

In Windows 2000, the Windows logo key will open the Start menu. The following combinations are supported by default:

Windows logo key+E: Starts Windows ExplorerWindows logo key+R: Opens the Run dialog boxWindows logo key+F: Opens the Search menuWindows logo key+U: Starts Utility ManagerWindows logo key+F1: Starts Windows HelpWindows logo key+F3: Opens the Search menu.

You can disable the 'Windows logo key+E' combination by enabling the Disable programs on Settings menu Group Policy at User ConfigurationAdministrativeTemplatesStart Menu and Taskbar.

NOTE: Enabling the Disable programs on Settings menu Group Policy will remove the following from the Settings menu:

Control PanelNetwork and Dialup ConnectionsPrinters

With the policy enabled, pressing the 'Windows logo key+E' displays:

This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.

NOTE: All other Windows logo key combinations will continue to work.
