JSI Tip 1642. Another way to insert a carriage return in the Legal Notice Text.
September 19, 1999
We described a method of inserting a carriage return in tip 0024.
Here is another method that doesn't require my lfcr.npd file.
After entering the full text at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionWinlogonLegalNoticeText, use Regedt32 to select the LegalNoticeText value name and click Binary on the Edit menu. This opens your text in the Binary Editor. Each character of your text is displayed as 4 characters.
To insert the carriage return, insert 0D00 before the character that starts a new line. You can count the text and multiply the number of characters in front by 4, switch to binary and count off this number of characters, or just learn to recognize the hexadecimal representation of the character set.
Repeat this process for each carriage return.
NOTE: The lfcr.npd file contains 0A00.
NOTE: For Windows 2000, see tip 2313.
