How can I add additional templates to a Group Policy Object?
January 8, 2000
A. The old style NT 4.0 templates (.adm) are still supported inWindows 2000 Group Policy Objects (GPO) and are listed in the Group Policy underthe 'Administrative Templates' branch. These settings are all"registry" based settings.
Windows 2000 ships with two .adm files
system.adm (General system settings)
inetres.adm (Internet Explorer specific settings)
When a adm file is applied to a GPO it is copied from the %systemroot%inffolder to the %systemroot%SYSVOLdomainPoliciesAdmfolder.
To add/remove a new template to a GPO perform the following:
Start the Active Directory Users and Computers MMC snap-in (Start - Programs - Administrative Tools - Active Directory Users and Computers)
Right click on the container whose GPO you wish to change, for example savilltech.com and select Properties
Select the 'Group Policy' tab
Select the GPO and click Edit
The Group Policy MMC snap-in will be started with the GPO at the root
Under User or Computer configuration right click on 'Administrative Templates' and select 'Add/Remove Templates'
Click Add (or to remove select one and click Remove)
Select the ADM to add and click Open
Click Close
The new options will now be available
The ADM file will be copied to the GPO's Adm folder.
