The subject behavior will occur if you upgraded Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 2000 and then upgraded Windows 2000 to Windows Server 2003.

To fix the problem, you must edit the metabase:

Enable direct metabase edit:

1. Start the IIS Manager (IIS.msc).

2. Right-click the local computer and press Properties.

3. Check the Enable Direct MetabaseEdit box.

4. Press Apply and OK.

Edit the metabase:

1. Open the %Systemroot%System32InetsrvMetaBase.xml file in Notepad.

Key Name: NntpServiceVersion
Key Number: 45175
Existing Value: 0 New Value: 5
Key Location: LMNNTPSVC

2. Locate the line NntpServiceVersion= and change the number from 0 to 5.

3. Save the file.
