Windows Phone Device Stats: July 2014
No major changes
July 29, 2014
In its latest look at Windows Phone handset usage, AdDuplex shows no major changes, especially to the top ten most-used devices. But some of the new devices—Lumia 930, 630 and 635, in particular—are showing some movement, and Cricket is already seeing great success with the 630 in the United States.
As you may remember, AdDuplex bills itself as the largest cross-promotion network for Windows Phone and Windows 8 apps, empowering developers and publishers to promote their apps for free by helping each other. And each month it provides a tantalizing glimpse at which Windows Phone (and Windows) devices people are actually using.
Here's what's happening this month.

AdDuplex Windows Phone Statistics Report - July 2014 from adduplex
Lumia 630 hits the top 10. The new Lumia 630 has entered the top 10 in a number of markets, AdDuplex reports, the first of the new phones to get that high in the ratings. (It's in position 20 overall.) This makes sense, since the 630 is a low-cost device, and that's been the sweet spot for Windows Phone so far. As for the other new phones, the 635 is at number 27, and the 930 (a high-end device) is at number 31.
Lumia 52x retains its grip on the market. The Lumia 520/521 is still the most often-used Windows Phone handset, and by far, with about 36 percent of the market combined and almost 50 percent in the US. The remainder of the top 5 includes most low-end and older handsets, like the Lumia 625, 920, 710 and 620. None have double-digit usage share, however, so there is a wide range of devices out there.
Windows Phone 8.1 growth continues. Windows Phone 8.1 usage jumped 4.2 percentage points to 11.9 percent overall, just behind Windows Phone 7.x (17.7 percent). Windows Phone 8.0 is of course number one with 70.4 percent (down 4.9 percent from last month).
Nokia actually grew again. Nokia picked up almost a full point of usage share and now commands 94.5 percent of all Windows Phone usage.
Cricket disrupts the US market. While AT&T still has a commanding lead in the US with 34.2 percent usage compared to 21.8 percent for T-Mobile and 14.1 percent for Verizon, there is a surprise this month. Cricket entered the US chart in position 5, with 7.3 percent usage share. It's selling the Lumia 630.
New and unreleased devices. AdDuplex notes And mystery entries in the usage charts this week. The LG D635 marks LG's soon-to-be reentry into the Windows Phone market and features a 720p 5-inch screen. The HTC HTC6995LVW appears to be the rumored HTC One (M8) variant, with a 5-inch 1080p screen. The good/bad news? The HTC is a Verizon exclusive. And there's a new Nokia too: The RM-1038/1039 is a 4.7-inch 720p device that some feel might be called the Lumia 730 when it's released. It will be sold via AT&T in the US and in many places internationally.
