Will Holiday 2014 be Xbox 360's Swan Song?
It shouldn't be... but I bet it is
September 14, 2014
Microsoft this week revealed Xbox 360 bundle lineup for the 2014 holiday season, which includes a special Call of Duty-themed value bundle, a specially colored version of the console with a much bigger hard drive, and a new Kinect bundle. Is this the last big holiday quarter for Xbox 360?
If you're Microsoft, you sort of hope so, given the rough start for the Xbox One compared to the PS4. But I look at these bundles and see some tremendous value. The only worry is that software production for the 360 drops off a cliff in 2015. Which is too bad, because I think the 360 is good to go for at least a few more years.
Regardless of my worries, here's what Microsoft if offering in Xbox 360 bundles this holiday season:
Xbox 360 500GB Holiday Value Bundle
Available: September 16, many retailers
This incredible value includes a standard 3rd generation Xbox 360 with a 500 GB hard drive, a wireless controller, and two full games—Call of Duty: Ghosts (2013) and Call of Duty: Black Ops II (2012), for just $250.
Xbox 360 500GB Special Edition Blue Bundle
Available: October 7, only from Wal-Mart
If you're looking for something a little different, Wal-Mart will soon be offering the same bundle noted above—the 500 GB hard drive, the two Call of Duty games, the same pricing—but with a special edition arctic blue version of the Xbox 360 console and wireless controller. Very nice.
Xbox 360 4GB Kinect Bundle
Available: September 16, Target only in the US
Target customers will be able to pick up a special Xbox 360 bundle that includes 4GB version of the console, a wireless controller, Kinect, and three Kinect games: Kinect Adventures (2012), Kinect Sports (2012) and Forza Horizon (2012). The cost? $249.
