SSH Communications Releases Secure Shell 3.1

SSH Communications announced the release of Secure Shell (SSH) 3.1, an improved version of the company's popular remote user-connectivity and system-administration software. The product is available for servers and workstations running Windows Me, Windows 2000, Windows 98, Windows 95, Windows NT 4.0, and a variety of UNIX platforms.

SSH 3.1 supports several authentication methods at both ends of a connection (client and server) to prevent identity spoofing. The product supports Secur-ID, public key infrastructures (PKI), and smart cards to authenticate user sessions. SSH 3.1 also provides tunneling for arbitrary TCP/IP-based applications and offers user-session compression and encryption using Triple DES (3DES), Blowfish, Twofish, and Rijndael encryption algorithms. The Windows-based version includes a GUI and serves as a full replacement for many commonly used tools such as Telnet and FTP.

SSH 3.1 will be available later this month, with prices starting at $99 per workstation license, $475 per UNIX server license, and $565 per Windows server license.
