Q. How do I make Windows XP act as an IP router?

A. If you have an XP machine with multiple NICs connected to different subnets, you can easily configure XP to act as an IP router.

  1. Start regedit.

  2. Navigate to HKLMSYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesTcpipParameters.

  3. Double-click IPEnableRouter

  4. Set it to 1 and click OK.

  5. Close regedit.

  6. Reboot the machine.

After the reboot, the XP box will act as an IP router between the networks to which it is connected.
