Intel and Microsoft will publish an expanded version of the NetPCspecification, which hardware vendors will use to create systems thatare due this summer. The first NetPC systems will cost less than$1000 and lower the overall cost of PC ownership by making the machinescentrally managed and configured. All NetPCs will include managementand diagnostic software, a small, sealed chassis without expansionbays or floppy or CD-ROM drives, integrated networking, USB supportfor attaching multiple peripherals, and an "instant-On" feature thatwill allow the machines to turn on quickly like TVs and radios.Companies that plan to make NetPCs include NEC, Hewlett-Packard, Compaq, Gateway, and Dell Computer
