Next week, Microsoft plans to release a new version of its Active Directory Services Interface (ADSI) toolkit for developers. This kit allowsdevelopers to write applications for a wide range of Directory Services. Microsoft Active Directory Service will be included with Windows NT 5.0, which is due by the end of 1997. Still, the company claims that a majorgoal of the product is to offer seamless transitions across all platforms.

"It really doesn't favor one directory over another," said Enzo Schiano, yet another product manager for Windows NT Server. "You will get the same level of functionality across the platforms."

The upcoming toolkit will support Microsoft Active Directory, Novell Directory Services, and any Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP)directory
