Microsoft to fix Word 97 bug

Microsoft will post a bug fix for Word 97 to the company's Web site by the end of March. Many users have complained that choosing "Save As..." in Word automatically chooses RTF (Rich Text Format) instead of the more obvious Word .DOC 6.0/95 format.

Microsoft will post a bug fix for Word 97 to the company's Web site by the end of March. Many users have complained that choosing "Save As..." in Word automatically chooses RTF (Rich Text Format) instead of the more obvious Word .DOC 6.0/95 format. Sometimes, users save the file as an RTF file with a .DOC extension, further compounding the problem. RTF files are much larger than comparable DOC files.

The fix will address these problems and reduce the file size of RTF files
