Thanks to WinInfo subscriber Rick Parker for this tip: Microsoft has justreleased the first beta of Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) forWindows 95. What is PPTP you ask? Well, PPTP is relatively new protocolthat allows you to use the Internet to access private remote networks overthe Internet. PPTP integrates with Dial-Up Networking (DUN) and Remote Access Service (RAS) so that you can easily and seamlessly (well, exceptfor connection speed, I suppose) connect to NT Server-based networks overthe Internet using encryption for security. PPTP is available in WindowsNT 4.0 Workstation and Server and will be available in the next version ofWindows 95, code-named "Memphis."
