As predicted earlier in WinInfo, Microsoft Corporation on Wednesdayannounced the immediate availability of BackOffice 4.5, its latestintegrated server suite for the Windows NT 4.0 platform. BackOffice 4.5 isnow available for evaluation in the form of a $30 fully functional trialedition CD kit as well.

"Our customers are challenging us to simplify the deployment of solutionsbased on Office and BackOffice," said Rich Tong, vice president of marketingfor the Business Productivity Group at Microsoft. "BackOffice Server 4.5makes the jobs of IT professionals and solution developers easier by takingthe guesswork out of setting up and managing a branch or departmentalserver."

Also announced is a new Team Productivity Update, which helps administratorsintegrate components from Microsoft Office 2000, Internet Explorer 5.0, andBackOffice 4.5. But the biggest new features in BackOffice 4.5 are theinclusion of SQL Server 7.0 and the debut of a new Microsoft ManagementConsole (MMC)-based central administration tool for all of the applications.Previous versions of BackOffice used separate admin tools for eachcomponent.
