Microsoft posted a trial version of Visual J++ 1.1 to its Web site today.The new version of Microsoft's Java development tool is due to be releasedon March 19. It will be sold as part of Visual Studio 97 as well as separately. New features include:

  • A wizard that makes accessing ODBC databases easier

  • A wizard to enable creation of ActiveX components

  • An enhanced IDE that includes VBScript macro scripting

  • A post-build feature to compress Java applets and publish them to the Web
