Lotus Development will announce the shipment of SmartSuite 97 next week. SmartSuite is the company’s office application suite, which competes with Microsoft Office 97 and Corel Office Professional.

The suite includes 32-bit versions of the WordPro word processor, the 1-2-3 spreadsheet, the Approach database, the Organizer PIM, Freelance Graphics, and a video utility called ScreenCam.

The suite was originally scheduled to ship in January but was delayed for unspecified reasons. Unlike Microsoft’s Office 97, the Lotus suite is componentized, resulting in speed and size improvements.

SmartSuite will retail for $400, or $150 to upgrade.
