When you open Task Manager in Windows XP, you receive:

Microsoft Task Manager has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If the error report contains the following data, it is likely that a previous service pack installation did not successfully complete:

App Name App Version Module Name Module Version Offset----------------------------------------------------------taskmgr.exe 5.1.2600.1106 ntdll.dll 5.1.2600.1217 00000342

To resolve this problem, reinstall the latest Windows XP service pack.

NOTE: See How to obtain the latest Windows XP service pack.
