JSI Tip 7071. Windows XP cannot write to a DVD-RAM disc that is in a DVD-RAM/CD-RW combination drive?

When you attempt to write to a DVD-RAM disc that is in a DVD-RAM/CD-RW combination drive, you receive:

The disc in the drive is not a writable CD or it is full.
Please insert a blank, writable CD into drive D:, or insert a disc with enough free space to hold all the files you have selected for writing to CD.

If the Enable CD recording on this drive box is selected in the Properties of the DVD_RAM drive, this behavior will occur because the DVD-RAM drive supports the FAT32 or Universal Disk Format (UDF) file systems, while the CD-RW drive supports the Compact Disc File System (CDFS), and checking the box enables CDFS on the drive.

To enable writing to a DVD-RAM disc:

1. Open My Computer.

2. Right-click the DVD-RAM drive (listed under Devices with Removable Storage) and press Properties.

3. Select the Recording tab.

4. Clear the Enable CD recording on this drive box.

5. Press OK.

NOTE: If you install 3-rd party recording software, you may not have the Recording tab.

NOTE: When the Enable CD recording on this drive box is clear and you try to burn a CD-RW (or CD-R), you receive:

is not accessible.
Incorrect function.

To enable CDFS, use the above procedure, except check the Enable CD recording on this drive box.
