JSI Tip 5937. Freeware WinRegRead grants remote access to the registry.
November 7, 2002
I explained how to grant remote access to the registry in tips 0277 (Oct. 1997) and 0840 (Nov. 1998).
"WinRegRead - Sets a READ ACE on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSecurePipeServersWinreg for any group or userid specified on the command line. Setting this ACE allows access to the registry for users/groups outside of the default Administrators and Backup Operators. This will allow someone other than those two groups to do remote performance monitoring on the server. Published in February 2001 Windows 2000 Security Administrator (Premier Issue) in Reader to Reader section. http://www.secadministrator.com/Articles/Index.cfm?ArticleID=16529 [Version: 1.00.00, Date: 11/18/00]"
When you type WinRegRead /?, you receive:
WinRegRead V01.00.00cpp Joe Richards ([email protected]) January 2000Command completed successfully.Usage: WinRegRead name name - User or Group name to give Read Access to Winreg
