When you install the Windows XP SP1 update, during the Inspecting your current configuration phase you receive:

Update.exe - Unable to Locate ComponentThis application has failed to start because netdtect.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

You have a 3rd party driver trying to link to the old Netdtect.dll library, which is no longer provided with Windows.

NOTE: The CNet Pro200WL Fast Ethernet  adapter is a likely culprit.

When you get this error, you can safely ignore it. There is nothing to reinstall.

To continue the installation:

1. Press OK

2. Go get a cup of coffee, as Windows may hang for up to 15 minutes.

3. The installation will continue as expected.
