When you try to install Windows XP, you receive an error similar to:

An unexpected error has occurred. (536821760) occurred at line 1768 in D:xpclientbasebootsetuparcdisp.c

This is generally the result of defective RAM or a damaged RAM slot.

The minimum memory required is 64MB, but even Microsoft recommends a 128MB minimum. I recommend a 256MB minimum. The maximum you can have is 4 Gig.

To determine the problem (Don't violate the 64MB minimum rule):

1. Remove a memory module and retry. If you can install, you have a faulty module.

2. If it still fails, remove a different module and retry. Repeat this step until you are successful.

NOTE: Replace any modules found to be faulty.

NOTE: Make sure your BIOS is flashed current.
