When the message Hit F6 if you need to load a third party SCSI or Raid driver is displayed, press F5.

NOTE: Pressing F7 instead of F5 forces the Non-ACPI PIC HAL (Hal.dll).

NOTE: If you force a HAL, hardware changes will NOT automatically change the HAL.

NOTE: Upgrading from any NT-based OS, will NOT automatically change the HAL.

NOTE: If you press Update Driver while selecting the Computer device in Device Manager, check Install from a list.... and Don't search..., only compatible HALs will be listed.

The following lists the valid selections:

Non-ACPI PIC HAL (Hal.dll) Can Be Used For:

  • Non-ACPI PIC computers

  • Non-ACPI APIC (UP and MP) computers

  • ACPI PIC computers

  • ACPI APIC (UP and MP) computers

Non-ACPI APIC UP HAL (Halapic.dll) Can Be Used For:

  • Non-ACPI APIC (UP) computers

  • ACPI APIC (UP) computers

Non-ACPI APIC MP HAL (Halmps.dll) Can Be Used For:

  • Non-ACPI APIC (MP) computers

  • Non-ACPI APIC (UP) computers

  • ACPI APIC (MP) computers

  • ACPI APIC (UP) computers

ACPI PIC HAL (Halacpi.dll) Can Be Used For:

  • ACPI PIC computers

  • ACPI APIC (UP and MP) computers

ACPI APIC UP HAL (Halaacpi.dll) Can Be Used For:

  • ACPI APIC (UP) computers

ACPI APIC MP HAL (Halmacpi.dll) Can Be Used For:

  • ACPI (MP) computers

  • ACPI (UP) computers

NOTE: On Windows XP, the UP APIC HALs recognize the existence of more than one processor. If you insert a second processor, the the MP files are automatically installed.
