To hide selected Notification Area icons in Windows XP:

1. Right-click the Taskbar and press Properties.

2. Select the Taskbar tab.

3. Check the Hide inactive icons box.

4. Press the Customize button.

5. For each program, choose between Hide when inactive, the default, Always hide, and Always show.

6. Press Apply and OK.

NOTE: If you hide icons, a small arrow at the left edge of the Notification Area will allow you toggle themvisible or hidden.
