SkyDrive + Android

Microsoft today delivered a version of its SkyDrive mobile app for Android via Google’s Play online store. The software giant had first promised this app about two weeks ago.

I wrote about Microsoft’s plans to deliver an Android version of SkyDrive in SkyDrive 2012: New Android App, Web App, And Developer Support. At that time, Microsoft said that the Android app—which is joining similar mobile apps for Windows 8 and RT, Windows Phone, iPhone, and iPad—would let users browse their SkyDrive storage, upload files to the service, share files with “Send a link,” open SkyDrive files from other apps, and upload, save, and share to SkyDrive from other apps.

The app, available now in the Play store, appears to deliver on these expectations. It works with Android 2.3 and higher but “works best” with Android 4.0 or newer. I’ve installed the app on a Samsung Galaxy Nexus smart phone, and you can see some representative shots below.
