Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA) 2000 provides many useful features. For all browsers these features include

  • access to the user's email, calendar, and contacts folders

  • access to the Global Address List (GAL)

  • access to public folders, including public folders that use the default calendar and contact forms

  • support for front-end and back-end server configurations

  • friendly URL access to items in folders

For Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) 5.0 and later, OWA 2000 includes

  • HTML message formatting

  • support for embedded items (messages or appointments within a message) and ActiveX Data Objects (ADO)

  • the ability to create multimedia messages

  • drag-and-drop capability (within a store)

  • offloading some rendering responsibilities from server

  • Preview pane

  • sorted columns and grouped views

You need to inform your user community of OWA's limitations, including

  • no support for working offline

  • no logoff option; user must close the browser to end the session

  • no support for Secure MIME (S/MIME) messages (advanced security) or digital signatures

  • no support for drag-and-drop capability between mailboxes and public folders

  • no capability for marking messages as replied to or forwarded

  • no spell checker
